The new 1,700 sq ft retail showroom in Kolkata showcases quiet luxury for THHO, a brand specializing in bespoke ethnic and occasion wear.
Design concept centers on restraint and tactile experience
The space relies on proportion, light, and materiality to create a calm, sophisticated atmosphere. A warm Pearl Taupe palette serves as a neutral backdrop, allowing the garments’ colours and textures to stand out. Textured plaster‑like walls, terrazzo‑inspired flooring, and brushed brass accents add subtle depth without overwhelming the eye.
Fluid geometries and sculptural forms run through the interior, from rounded mirrors to organic seating. These curves soften the environment while maintaining a sense of movement.

Spatial layout encourages an unhurried journey
The floor plan treats the showroom as a hospitality‑inspired lounge rather than a conventional boutique. A central lounge anchors the space, offering immediate welcome and a place for visitors to pause. Retail displays line the perimeter, preserving an open centre that supports fluid circulation. Private consultation and trial zones are tucked discreetly into the layout, giving shoppers privacy without breaking the continuity of the design.
Because the building’s original shell features 25‑inch‑thick walls and no openings, the architects used those constraints as a design opportunity. Rather than altering the structural envelope, the interior zoning, circulation, and lighting were shaped around the existing framework, preserving the building’s integrity while reimagining its interior.
Visitors linger, absorbing the calm.
Material choices reinforce the brand’s identity
Beyond colour, the showroom’s material palette amplifies its quiet luxury. Soft, plaster‑like finishes on walls introduce a gentle texture, while the terrazzo‑styled floor provides durability and refinement. Brushed brass details add a muted metallic warmth, complementing understated display systems and plush upholstered furniture. Draperies and soft fabrics layer tactile comfort over harder surfaces, echoing the hospitality vibe that the design aims to evoke.

Negative space is treated with the same care as the objects it frames. Empty areas allow the interior to breathe, preventing visual crowding and ensuring that each garment remains the focal point. Tall arched mirrors extend sightlines, adding depth and reinforcing the sculptural language throughout the compact footprint.
Lighting strategy blends function with ambience
Lighting in the showroom is layered rather than purely functional. Ambient illumination, architectural ceiling lighting, and track‑mounted accent lights work together to highlight different zones according to their purpose. This approach creates a warm, controlled atmosphere that supports both display and interaction.
The project demonstrates how a restrained design language can convey luxury when proportion, materiality, and detailing are thoughtfully orchestrated. The result is an environment that feels timeless rather than trend‑driven, allowing the architecture to support THHO’s brand narrative over time.
