Halton police are warning residents in the region about an ongoing home renovation scam.
Officers say the fraud involves “contractors” traveling door-to-door to sell unsolicited services, such as chimney or driveway repair and stone work.
The contractor will provide a quote under market value and once a deal is reached, they will ask for a large cash payment.
Investigators say the initial work may start, but the work will be incomplete or sub-par.
The consumer may then be approached to provide more money for supplies. Once the suspect receives the additional or final payment, they disappear. Phone calls and text messages will go unanswered leaving the consumer with damaged or incomplete work.

The suspects are described as middle-aged white men with Irish or possibly Scottish accents wearing construction vests. They are known to be aggressive and eager to receive an initial cash deposit from victims.
Investigators believe there may be more victims outside of Halton as well.
