Halton police warn public about home renovation scam

Halton police are warning residents in the region about an ongoing home renovation scam. Officers say the fraud involves “contractors” traveling door-to-door to sell unsolicited services, such as chimney or driveway repair and stone work. The contractor will provide a quote under market value and once a deal is reached, they will ask for a large cash payment. Investigators say the initial work may start, but the work will be incomplete or sub-par. The consumer may then be approached to provide more money for supplies.
