Mindy Kaling Sells Downtown NYC Loft for $2.4 Million

AD reported back in March that the writer, producer, and actor Mindy Kaling had found a buyer for her two-bedroom, two-bathroom Manhattan condo. The multihyphenate was primed for a loss on the sale, as she had purchased the SoHo/NoLita pad for $3.1 million in 2017 but had set the selling price at $2.75 million. According to the New York Post, the loss is even greater than anticipated, as the deal closed this week at $2.4 million.

The 1,166-square-foot apartment sits on the sixth floor of a building designed by AD100 architect Richard Gluckman, offering clear views of the Williamsburg bridge. in 2017, AD got a peek inside the house, which Kaling decorated in collaboration with One Kings Lane. “If it was up to me, every inch of this place would be covered with some kind of tchotchke,” the Velma producer said of the pied-à-terre.

The decorative style, which she dubbed “Moroccan midcentury,” manifested as a chic balance of color and texture; the unique aesthetic came courtesy of a combined nod to her father’s love of mid-century-modern and her own style evolution. “The house that we grew up in was furnished with a lot of pieces in the Danish mid-century style,” she told the furniture purveyors. “As I grew older I reacted to that.”

The city abode boasts a sunny open-plan living area with a small eat-in kitchen that faces a sitting room featuring large windows and a paneled glass wall. In the primary ensuite bathroom, a black marble with white veining covers both the bathtub and dual vanities.

Kaling opened up her LA abode, a colorful space with a decidedly different vibe than that of her former NYC dwelling, in a 2017 chat with AD. “It’s a little Wes Anderson,” Kaling said during the tour.

The listing for her former downtown residence was held by Carl Gambino and Reilly Adler of Gambino Group at Compass.
